Well here we are… 2 episodes away from the biggest milestone of this show’s history – 100 episodes! Just two more weeks before this momentous occasion, so I’m cramming in as much new music as possible, from all over Australia. This week sees the inclusion of two new artists – TEAK and RICK WEBSTER PROJECT, both fantastic new independent artists who I look forward to broadcasting regularly.

You know, that’s one of the most important aspects of this show to me – having artists approach me whom I’ve never heard before, and being blown away by the music they are creating. Alot of the music on this show has not found its way to other radio broadcasters, and I find that very odd. Some of the best music I’ve heard has come to me through seemingly unheard of artists in Australia and I relish it. It’s like uncovering a gold mine that no one has tapped into. There’s something in the water that fuels this country’s independent music, and it’s bringing a sound I’m constanty falling in love with.

Enough words, time for some sonic vibrations to liven your world…

Welcome to the all-new Close to Nowhere for 2013! Not only is it a brand new year, but it’s also a brand new show! Yes I’ve been busy over the break, trying new things and experimenting with different show sgements, and what I’ve come up with is a new format for the show, totally reinvented and updated for a more interactive experience! Here’s what’s new:

MADMAN’S MANDOLIN MEDLEY!!!

This is a new segment to the show, in which I perform a medley of two well known songs on my mandolin. You have to guess the two songs I’ve medled with, and write in to let me know the answer. If you’re the first one to get in touch (You must message me persoally, DO NOT post your answer on the fanpage wall), you’ll get to choose the next two songs I make a medley out of!

MY CHICKEN PLAYS MUSIC

Ok, stay with me on this one… I have chickens. I decided I wanted to come up with something unique and slightly strange for Close to Nowhere – like having my chickens help me write a song.

How do I do this? It’s actually quite simple – I bury a kids toy drum in the soil where I put the chicken feed, so the skin of the drum is still exposed. I then place a hidden recording device near the drum. The chickens come along and peck the drum as they eat. I then take the recording of the pecking and bring it into the studio, building an entire song around the rhythm they created for me. That’s it! Don’t believe me? Here’s footage of the process:

Click here to view the embedded video.

OPEN MIC

This segment was created to give artists who don’t have the best recordings of their music a chance to get some airplay. Whether it be a recording at a gig, or just sitting in their room recording their song on a phone – the quality is not important, the song is. So if you are an artist who’d like to feature in the Open Mic segment, let me know by emailing me at peter@scudleyrecords.com with the subject “Open Mic”.

Alright, let’s get into it. I hope you enjoy the all new Close to Nowhere!

PLAYLIST:

1. My Queen – Daniel Beach
2. Travellin’ Man – The Renzullo Project

<itunes:summary>Welcome to the all-new Close to Nowhere for 2013! Not only is it a brand new year, but it's also a brand new show! Yes I've been busy over the break, trying new things and experimenting with different show sgements, and what I've come up with is a new format for the show, totally reinvented and updated for a more interactive experience! Here's what's new:

MADMAN'S MANDOLIN MEDLEY!!!

This is a new segment to the show, in which I perform a medley of two well known songs on my mandolin. You have to guess the two songs I've medled with, and write in to let me know the answer. If you're the first one to get in touch (You must message me persoally, DO NOT post your answer on the fanpage wall), you'll get to choose the next two songs I make a medley out of!

MY CHICKEN PLAYS MUSIC

Ok, stay with me on this one... I have chickens. I decided I wanted to come up with something unique and slightly strange for Close to Nowhere - like having my chickens help me write a song.

How do I do this? It's actually quite simple - I bury a kids toy drum in the soil where I put the chicken feed, so the skin of the drum is still exposed. I then place a hidden recording device near the drum. The chickens come along and peck the drum as they eat. I then take the recording of the pecking and bring it into the studio, building an entire song around the rhythm they created for me. That's it! Don't believe me? Here's footage of the process:

OPEN MIC

This segment was created to give artists who don't have the best recordings of their music a chance to get some airplay. Whether it be a recording at a gig, or just sitting in their room recording their song on a phone - the quality is not important, the song is. So if you are an artist who'd like to feature in the Open Mic segment, let me know by emailing me at peter@scudleyrecords.com with the subject "Open Mic".

Alright, let's get into it. I hope you enjoy the all new Close to Nowhere!

PLAYLIST:

1. My Queen - Daniel Beach
2. Travellin' Man - The Renzullo Project

MADMAN'S MANDOLIN MEDLEY!!!

3. One way - The Long March
4. My Midknight - Siobny Cooke
5. Music - The Simon Wright Band
6. Under fire - Mis Divine

MY CHICKEN PLAYS MUSIC!!!

7. Gretly - Ji Deeg
8. Spirit walking - Tane Tarrant

OPEN MIC!!! - "Passing time" by Lynda Smyth

9. Bird's land - Alexandre Madeiros
10. Taken from life - Medusa's Gaze
11. Change - Raoul Mclay

That's it for this week! I'll catch you next time!</itunes:summary>

debauchery. The Drunk Sessions was the result of an inspired (if you can call it that) idea of recording ourselves after 2 1 litre bottles of vodka and 2 bottles of red wine (Obikwa Shiraz from South Afrca) having a chat and a sing along. Normally reserved for serious broadcast and recording, Scudley Records became the setting for this momentous occasion in which producer Peter Renzullo and artist Ji Deeg decided to record an album. The album didn’t happen, as it was 2am and they were swimming in booze. What resulted instead was an hour of nonsense between two muso friends who had a chat, a jam, and a few rather awkward laughs – and luckily the microphones were turned on to capture the moment. You’ll notice that we’re fairly coherant for the first song, then it’s pretty much a slippery slide down hill from there.

<itunes:summary>So close to Christmas now! Only two more shows after this one, so I'm making them extra crunchy! Three new songs this week, and one of them is from a brand new artist to the show - Limpin' Dave Foley and the straight legged freaks! They're a great new band from right here in Perth and they're debuting with a cracker of a song. There's also a return of the new series "The Drunk Sessions", and this week I give Ji a little challenge - to create a song on the spot using three key words... with two bottles of vodka and half a bottle of wine coursing through his system!

Let's do it!

Playlist:

1. A golden glove humility - Minute 36
2. Smoke and Mirrors - Youth Sounds
3. The ruination of Junkyard Joe - The Crooked Fiddle Band
4. Can't help myself - Soutnern Cross
5. One way - The Long March
6. Fly away - Mis Divine
7. Sleeping dos lie - Limpin' Dave Foley and the straight legged freaks
8. Ten tone right - And the vice
9. Altercation in the parkinglot - Terri Marie
10. Rumblefish - Mile end
11. The sun will rise - Heath Marshall

That's it for this week! Until next time.</itunes:summary>
